There is a certain grit to Maria Ewing\u2019s representation of M\u00e9lisande in this performance, with the character given new meaning through Ewing\u2019s interpretation and nuances. She sings the role alongside Fran\u00e7ois Le Roux as Pell\u00e9as, whose performance is considered and refined.<\/p>\n

Hall\u2019s staging showed Ewing at her most elegant and glamorous.<\/p>\n
