{"id":15138,"date":"2022-07-25T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2022-07-24T22:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/c01.purpledshub.com\/bbcsciencefocus\/?post_type=purple_issue&#038;p=15138"},"modified":"2022-07-27T12:10:59","modified_gmt":"2022-07-27T10:10:59","slug":"vibrant-frescoes-uncovered-in-egyptian-temple-show-depictions-of-ancient-deities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/c01.purpledshub.com\/bbcsciencefocus\/2022\/07\/25\/vibrant-frescoes-uncovered-in-egyptian-temple-show-depictions-of-ancient-deities\/","title":{"rendered":"Vibrant frescoes uncovered in Egyptian temple show depictions of ancient deities"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center\">VIBRANT FRESCOES UNCOVERED IN EGYPTIAN TEMPLE SHOW DEPICTIONS OF ANCIENT DEITIES<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap article-full-body sans-serif\">German and Egyptian researchers have uncovered paintings and inscriptions on the walls and ceilings of the Temple of <span>Khnum at Esna, near Luxor in Egypt.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"article-full-body sans-serif\">The images, which feature depictions of several deities, were covered in dirt and soot for almost 2,000 years, which has helped to preserve them in immaculate detail. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"article-full-body sans-serif\">\u201cTemples and ancient depictions of the gods were often painted in brilliant colours, but these have usually faded or even disappeared totally as a result of external influences,\u201d said lead researcher Prof Christian Leitz, of the University of T\u00fcbingen, Germany. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"article-full-body sans-serif\">\u201cFor the first time we can see all the decorative elements in relation to one another.\u201d <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"article-full-body sans-serif\">After beginning work in 2018, the researchers have now cleaned half of the temple\u2019s ceilings and eight of its 18 columns. <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"no-tts wp-block-purple-slider\" data-autoplay=\"true\" data-speed=\"300\" data-effect=\"fade\"><li class=\"no-tts blocks-gallery-item\"><figure><img src=\"https:\/\/dj9jqhxgw9833.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/sites\/42\/2022\/07\/Photo_01.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-id=\"15366\" data-link=\"https:\/\/c01.purpledshub.com\/bbcsciencefocus\/?attachment_id=15366\"\/><figcaption>A close-up image of two of the 46 vulture figures depicted on the ceiling of the temple\u2019s central bay.
