We remember the things we think about, not necessarily the things we are told.<\/p>\n<p>When you write notes in your own words, you force yourself to reframe someone else\u2019s ideas into a form that you can concisely express on paper. This mental effort increases the chance of this information being transferred to your long-term memory later.<\/p>\n<p>Many studies have found that handwritten notes,\u00a0particularly those with arrows, diagrams and margin doodles, <a href=\"\/\/www.frontiersin.org\/articles\/10.3389\/fnbeh.2021.634158\/full&quot;\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"&quot;noopener&quot; noopener noreferrer\">improve information retention<\/a>.
