Best early Black Friday camera deals UK

Here are the best Black Friday camera deals 2023, that we’ve found so far, particularly on cameras suitable for astrophotography.

Canon EOS 2000D DSLR camera, was £519.99, now £379.00

Buy now from Amazon

The Canon EOS 2000D DSLR camera is a classic, and certainly a good model for those starting out in DSLR astrophotography, given its relatively low price point.

The camera can capture Full HD images and videos and offers ‘guided’ modes to help complete beginners.

It boasts fast autofocus and processing, and users can also connect the camera to their other electronic devices for sharing images, backing up and remote control.

While this is great for capturing selfies etc., it’s also good for long-exposure astrophotography, as it enables you to avoid nudging the camera and spoiling your shot.

Canon EOS R6 DSLR camera, was £2,399.00, now £1,399.00

Buy now from Jessops

In 2021 we had the pleasure of testing out the Canon EOS R6 camera and found it to be a great option for newcomers and more experienced DSLR users, offering superb astrophotography abilities for those who want to image the night sky.

It features an ISO range between 100 and 102400, expandable to 204800, while maintaining low noise. We tested the camera during full Moon and took the opportunity to try out its fast video capability.

The camera shoots in 4K at up to 25 fps and offers a nifty high-speed video option that can reach in excess of 100fps: excellent for lunar and solar imaging. We were also able to attach the EOS R6 to a short focal length refractor and found it gave a wide field of view, allowing us to capture large objects such as the Rosette Nebula. The nebula’s associated central star cluster was clearly visible in the ‘Live View’ screen.

Nikon D780 DSLR camera, was £2,299.00, now £2029.00

Nikon make a range of trusted DSLR cameras suitable for astrophotography, and the company’s D780 is currently reduced. The camera offers a time-lapse motion that could be used for recording the motions of the stars, plus the ability to share jpg and RAW files with smart devices.

ISO ranges from 100-51200 and the camera also features a low-light auto focus. The body measures 10x10x10cm and weighs 840g, making it a good option for transporting to a dark-sky site for astrophotography.

Bresser full HD deep-sky camera review
The Bresser full HD uses Sony’s IMX290 colour sensor, which has extremely low read noise, and is highly sensitive to faint light. On review we found decent detail on our targets, including the Moon, M27 and Jupiter.

Black Friday falls on the 24 November this year, but sales are already underway.

Each year we see great offers on DSLR cameras, and more recently CCD and CMOS camera suppliers have started to get in on the action too.

How to get a good deal on Black Friday 2023

We’d recommend doing some research, and noting down specific models or brands you’re interested in, before getting lost in the sale scrolling! It’s worth taking a note of pricings pre-sale, to ensure you’re getting an actual bargain.

You can also download browser extensions such as CamelCamelCamel to help with Amazon-related shopping. The tool monitors the prices of products on Amazon and lets you know if you’re truly securing the best possible deal.

Why Black Friday?

Astrophotography cameras are quite an investment, so it’s well worth waiting for a big sale event before splashing out. Plus, many of the retailers that embrace Black Friday are electronic and camera specialists, so there are usually good discounts on cameras to be found.

It’s also a chance to get a first camera for a child or young astrophotography enthusiast in time for Christmas!
