I was so delighted by what I saw that I decided to reframe it this year as a two-panel mosaic that would show the region\u2019s entirety. This image is a combination of last year\u2019s data with this year\u2019s.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jeffrey\u2019s top tips:<\/strong> \u201cShooting with a one-shot colour camera can be challenging in a city, but with enough forethought and integration time, you can get the results you want. I battle light pollution with dual-narrowband<\/span> filters like the Optolong L-eXtreme, which allows me to do long exposures (20 minutes). To avoid over-exposed stars, I do a round of shorter exposures (60\u201390 seconds) with a broadband filter like the Optolong L-Pro. Using PixInsight\u2019s Starnet++ feature I remove the stars from the image, then use \u2018Layers\u2019 in Photoshop to add the broadband stars to the narrowband nebula. This means you get the best of both worlds: faint nebulosity, and colourful and properly exposed stars.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n
