Equipment: Televue NP127is, Moravian G4-1600, 10-Micron GM2000HPS-II, unguided, Chroma 3nM Ha, OIII and SII\" title=\"Cone_NGC2264_005\" \/> <\/p>\n<p>The Cone Nebula, or NGC 2264, is a dark nebula located 2,500 lightyears away in the Monoceros constellation.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyatnightmagazine.com\/space-science\/beginners-guide-nebulae\/\">nebula<\/a> is 7 lightyears long and is packed full of dense gas and dust \u2013 the ingredients necessary for star formation \u2013 making it a perfect stellar factory.<\/p>\n<p>This tempestuous deep-sky region contains scorching hot young <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyatnightmagazine.com\/space-science\/beginners-guide-stars\/\">stars<\/a> that are eroding and carving out the dark nebula, also emitting blasts of powerful ultraviolet light that can be seen illuminating the edges of the dense cosmic cloud.<\/p>\n<p>The NGC 2264 region also contains an open <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyatnightmagazine.com\/space-science\/star-clusters-astronomer-guide\/\">star cluster<\/a> known as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyatnightmagazine.com\/space-science\/christmas-tree-cluster-ngc-2264\/\">Christmas Tree Cluster,<\/a> as it forms a sparkling triangular shape that makes it look rather like a festive fir.<\/p>\n<div class=\"image-handler__container image-handler__container--full\"> <img class=\"wp-image-93819 align size-full image-handler__image image-handler__image--full no-wrap js-lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images.immediate.co.uk\/production\/volatile\/sites\/25\/2021\/06\/Cone-Nebuka-ce56a60.jpeg?quality=90&amp;resize=620%2C620\" width=\"720\" height=\"720\" alt=\"A Hubble Space Telescope image of the Cone Nebula.\" title=\"Hubble image of Cone Nebula\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"caption-hold\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span class=\"caption-copy\"><i class=\"icon-arrow icon-camera-circle\"><\/i> A Hubble Space Telescope image of the Cone Nebula.
