C\/2014 Q2 Lovejoy is a long-period comet discovered on 17 August 2014 by amateur astronomer and astrophotographer Terry Lovejoy.<\/p>\n

The comet<\/a>\u2018s blue-green glow is the result of diatomic carbon and water molecules.<\/p>\n

Originating in the Oort Cloud<\/a>, it has an orbital period of around 19,000 years.<\/p>\n

It passed closest to the Sun on 30 January 2015 at a distance of 193,000,000 km.<\/p>\n
