href=\"&quot;https:\/\/www.skyatnightmagazine.com\/advice\/constellations-asterisms-what-difference\/&quot;\">asterism<\/a> known as the Keystone, which can be seen to form the shape of Hercules\u2019s head or torso, depending on which way you view the constellation.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s remarkable how identifiable this shape is, considering its brightest star is mag. +2.8 Zeta (\u03b6) Herculis.<\/p>\n<p>Heading south and a bit west from Zeta Herculis brings you to Kornephoros (Beta (\u03b2) Herculis), which shares its mag. +2.8 brightness with Rasalgethi (Alpha (\u03b1) Herculis), 13 \u030a to Kornephoros\u2019s east-southeast.<\/p>\n<p>And Kornephoros is a star in Hercules that\u2019s certainly worth your attention.<\/p>\n<div \u2018club bearer\u2019, and it was previously named Rutilicus, a corruption of the Greek word for \u2018armpit\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>This luminous yellow giant star is located 139 million lightyears away and is actually a spectroscopic <a href=\"&quot;https:\/\/www.skyatnightmagazine.com\/advice\/double-binary-stars-guide\/&quot;\">binary star<\/a> system with a period of 410 days.<\/p>\n<p>The primary is 2.9 times more massive than our own Sun and has a diameter 17 times larger.<\/p>\n<p>Its <a href=\"&quot;https:\/\/www.skyatnightmagazine.com\/advice\/a-guide-to-stellar-spectral-classifications\/&quot;\">spectral type<\/a> is G7 IIIa, a yellow giant star in the throes of expanding as it moves off the main-sequence of stellar evolution.<\/p>\n<p>The III indicates that Kornephoros is a giant star with the letter \u2018a\u2019 indicating it\u2019s a bit brighter than a typical giant.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"&quot;column&quot;\">\n<p>Not much is known about the secondary except that it\u2019s 0.9 times as massive as the Sun.<\/p>\n<p>The system is located 139 lightyears away and it was resolved by an Earth-based observatory using the \u2018speckle interferometry\u2019 technique.<\/p>\n<p>This involved the use of the Hale Telescope, while follow-up observations using
