first telescope that\u2019s able to look at the right wavelengths of light (3 to 5.5 microns) to pick out the signature of water, methane and carbon dioxide \u2013 all of which are vital to data-contrast=\"&quot;auto&quot;\">\u201cBy measuring this carbon dioxide feature, we can determine how much solid versus how much gaseous material was used to form this gas giant planet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"&quot;auto&quot;\">\u201cIn the coming decade, Webb will make this measurement for a variety of planets, providing insights into the details of how planets form and the uniqueness of our own Solar System.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"&quot;auto&quot;\">But perhaps most interestingly, carbon dioxide is given off by forms of life here on Earth, including us humans, meaning it could be a biomarker.<\/span><span
