Credit: Pete Lawrence<\/figcaption><\/figure><h2><strong>Geminid meteor shower quick facts<\/strong><\/h2><p>The radiant &#8211; the point in the sky from which the meteors appear to emanate, is in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyatnightmagazine.com\/advice\/constellation-gemini\">Gemini<\/a> near the stars <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyatnightmagazine.com\/advice\/castor-pollux-stars-gemini\">Castor and Pollux<\/a>.<\/p><p>The Geminid shower has a zenithal hourly rate (ZHR) of 140\u2013150 meteors per hour. Credit: Pete Lawrence<\/figcaption><\/figure><h2><strong>Observing the Geminid meteor shower top tips<\/strong><\/h2><p>Wrap up warm and use a sun-lounger or reclining chair to prevent neck ache<\/p><p>Observe with friends and family and keep watch in shifts, with comfort breaks in between.<\/p><p>Bring a flask of hot tea or soup to help keep warm &#8211; those December nights can get cold!<\/p><p>Allow 20 minutes for your eyes to adapt and avoid looking at bright artificial light<\/p><p>If you need a light, use a red torch<\/p><p>Look around two thirds the way up the sky, this being the best region to see a Gemind meteor<\/p><p>Any direction is fine, but trails will be shortest closer to the radiant and longest 90\u00b0 from the radiant.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"940\" height=\"530\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/48\/2019\/03\/Geminids-007-7477c6f.jpg\" alt=\"The radiant of the Geminid meteor shower comes from just beside the bright star Castor Find Castor tonight to help you spot a meteor.
