But will we get a showstopper?<\/p><p><strong><em>Find out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyatnightmagazine.com\/advice\/what-comets-asteroids-in-sky-tonight\">what comets and asteroids are visible tonight<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Path of Comet 62P\/Tsuchinshan 1 in January and February 2024 as it tracks from Leo through into Virgo. Credit: Pete Lawrence<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Shining at mag. 7.2 in early January 2024, <strong>62P\/Tsuchinshan<\/strong> passes from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyatnightmagazine.com\/advice\/leo-constellation\">Leo<\/a> into Virgo and is one of the first comets to kick off the year.<\/p><p>Comet 62P\/Tsuchinshan62P\/Tsuchinshan dims to eighth magnitude at the start of February 2024 and ninth by the end, but has the virtue of moving very slowly against the background stars.<\/p><p>Ninth-magnitude <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyatnightmagazine.com\/advice\/comet-144p-kushida\">144P\/Kushida<\/a><\/strong> is a really well-placed evening comet; starting just south of Uranus, it passes across the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyatnightmagazine.com\/advice\/hyades-open-cluster\">Hyades<\/a> during February.<\/p><p>Then at the end of March, mag. 8.3 <strong>C\/2021 S3 PanSTARRS<\/strong> will cross the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyatnightmagazine.com\/advice\/skills\/coathanger-asterism\">Coathanger Cluster<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/48\/2024\/01\/comet-12p-pons-brooks-1024x841.jpg?fit=800%2C657\" alt=\"Chart showing the location of Comet 12P\/Pons-Brooks in March 2024. Credit: Pete Lawrence<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Comet <strong>12P\/Pons\u2013Brooks<\/strong> is an early evening comet in March 2024, skirting the twilight after sunset later in the month.<\/p><p>Passing from Andromeda through northern Pisces and into Aries, it may become a dim naked-eye object.\u00a0<\/p><p>In the autumn, there\u2019s <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyatnightmagazine.com\/advice\/comet-c-2023-a3-tsuchinshan-atlas\">C\/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan\u2013ATLAS<\/a><\/strong>, which will swing through perihelion on 27 September 2024 and is best seen from the UK in the early evening October sky.<\/p><p>It may possibly become a naked-eye spectacle.
