{"id":55034,"date":"2024-02-13T09:34:14","date_gmt":"2024-02-13T09:34:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/fe183a19-d847-498d-bb43-242f668ed2f0"},"modified":"2024-02-13T10:32:29","modified_gmt":"2024-02-13T10:32:29","slug":"watch-nasa-launch-a-radio-telescope-and-science-instruments-to-the-moon","status":"publish","type":"rss_feed","link":"https:\/\/c01.purpledshub.com\/bbcskyatnight\/rss_feed\/watch-nasa-launch-a-radio-telescope-and-science-instruments-to-the-moon\/","title":{"rendered":"Watch NASA launch a radio telescope and science instruments to the Moon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"rssexcerpt\">Watch the live launch of a mission that could be the beginning of a new era of astronomy on the Moon. <\/p><p class=\"rssauthor\">By Iain Todd\n      <\/p><p class=\"rssbyline\">Published: Tuesday, 13 February 2024 at 09:34 AM<\/p><hr class=\"no-tts wp-block-separator\"\/><?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\" standalone=\"yes\"?>\n<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><body><p>A new mission to put a radio telescope and science instruments on the Moon is set to launch in the early hours of 14 February, and will be available to view live online via NASA TV.<\/p><p>US space company Intuitive Machines is launching one of its Nova-C lunar landers no earlier than 00:57 EST (05:57 UTC) on Wednesday 14 February 2024.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-watch-live\"><strong>Watch live<\/strong><\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"NASA Live: Official Stream of NASA TV\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/21X5lGlDOfg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen=\"\"\/><\/div><\/figure><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Odysseus IM-1 mission<\/strong><\/h2><p>The lander, named Odysseus as part of the IM-1 mission, is being launched aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Launch Complex 39A at Kennedy Space Center in Florida.<\/p><p>The Odysseus lander is a hexagonal spacecraft just 4 metres tall about 1.5 metres wide, with 6 legs and the ability to carry 100kg of payload to the surface of the Moon.<\/p><p>It is expected to land on the Moon on 22 February and carries NASA science and technology instruments, which include the ability to carry out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyatnightmagazine.com\/space-science\/radio-astronomy-changed-view-universe\">radio astronomy<\/a> from the lunar surface.<\/p><p>It will also focus on plume interactions on the lunar surface and how space weather interacts with Moon dust.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Intuitive Machines&#8217; IM-1 mission lunar lander ready for launch.
