Photo by GREGG NEWTON\/AFP via Getty Images<\/figcaption><\/figure><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-odysseus-im-1-mission\"><strong>Odysseus IM-1 mission<\/strong><\/h2><p>The lander, named Odysseus as part of the IM-1 mission, was launched aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Launch Complex 39A at Kennedy Space Center in Florida.<\/p><p>The Odysseus lander is a hexagonal spacecraft just 4 metres tall about 1.5 metres wide, with 6 legs and the ability to carry 100kg of payload to the surface of the Moon.<\/p><p>It is expected to land on the Moon on 22 February and is carrying NASA science and technology instruments, which include the ability to carry out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyatnightmagazine.com\/space-science\/radio-astronomy-changed-view-universe\">radio astronomy<\/a> from the lunar surface.<\/p><p>It will also focus on plume interactions on the lunar surface and how space weather interacts with Moon dust.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/48\/2024\/02\/intuitive-machines-IM-1-mission-lunar-lander-1024x613.jpg?fit=800%2C479\" alt=\"Intuitive Machines' IM-1 mission lunar lander ready for launch.
