BROWN\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The length of totality &#8211; how long the Sun is fully eclipsed for &#8211; during the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyatnightmagazine.com\/advice\/total-solar-eclipse-8-april-2024\">April 8 eclipse<\/a> differs depending on where you are observing from, but peaks at 4 minutes and 27 seconds.<\/p><p>If you&#8217;re not going to be in North America for the eclipse, or if you&#8217;re not able to step outside and view it on the day (or if it&#8217;s clouded over!), there are numerous places you can watch online.<\/p><p><strong><em>Find out more with our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyatnightmagazine.com\/space-science\/april-8-eclipse-facts\">facts about the April 8 eclipse<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Watch the April 8 total solar eclipse online<\/strong><\/h2><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>NASA<\/strong><\/h3><figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"2024 Total Solar Eclipse: Through the Eyes of NASA (Official Broadcast)\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2MJY_ptQW1o?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen=\"\"\/><\/div><\/figure><p>NASA will seem like the obvious place to turn if you want to watch the April 8 eclipse online, and the agency is hosting two streams via NASA TV and its YouTube page.<\/p><p>You can watch the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=2MJY_ptQW1o\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Official Broadcast<\/a> for build-up and interviews with eclipse experts, with the chance to use the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/AskNASA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">#askNASA<\/a> hashtag to submit your questions for them to be answered live.<\/p><p>And NASA is also hosting a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=J5j95RUSLd8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">clean telescope feed of the solar eclipse<\/a>, if you just want to have an uninterrupted view of the event.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Time and date<\/strong><\/h3><figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Total Solar Eclipse (Great North American) - April 8, 2024\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/P9M_e3JbpLY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen=\"\"\/><\/div><\/figure><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeanddate.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Timeanddate.com<\/a> is hosting a livestream on YouTube, which will offer live views of the solar eclipse as well as a live blog with real-time progress reports and background information on all the action during the event.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Exploratorium<\/strong><\/h3><figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"2024 Eclipse Livestream | Live Coverage of the Eclipse from Junction, Texas | Exploratorium\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/W50tzSzBLi0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen=\"\"\/><\/div><\/figure><p>The Exploratorium science centre in San Francisco, California is hosting a few livestreams of the April 8 eclipse.<\/p><p>It&#8217;s hosting a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ZRxFyr1bUiQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">stream through telescopes in Torre\u00f3n, Mexico<\/a> that will run without commentary or interruptions.<\/p><p>Another livestream offers a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=8al9FRz-VKY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">view of the eclipse through telescopes in Junction, Texas<\/a>, accompanied by sonification (music only, without commentary or interruptions).<\/p><p>There&#8217;s also live coverage of the eclipse from Junction, Texas (see stream above).<\/p><p>And if you want to watch the April 8 eclipse live online in Spanish, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Dy1qzeCm_SU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Exploratorium has a livestream for that, too<\/a>.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@exploratorium\"\/><\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-when-is-the-next-total-solar-eclipse\"><strong>When is the next total solar eclipse?<\/strong><\/h2><p>The next major total solar eclipse will occur on 12 August 2026 across Greenland, Iceland and northern Spain.<\/p><p>For more info, read our guide to find out when the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyatnightmagazine.com\/advice\/solar-lunar-eclipse-guide-when-where\">next eclipse<\/a> is happening.<\/p><p><em><strong>Are you travelling to see the eclipse?
