The Heart and Soul Nebulae are a cosmic duo located in the constellation Cassiopeia.<\/p>

The Heart Nebula and the Soul Nebula are often photographed together and as a result have earned the moniker ‘Heart and Soul Nebulae’<\/p>

The Heart Nebula<\/strong><\/h2>

The Heart Nebula, also known as IC 1805, is an emission nebula located 7,500 lightyears away in the Cassiopeia<\/a> constellation.<\/p>
The term ’emission’ means that the cosmic gas that forms the nebula<\/a> is actually glowing itself, rather than reflecting starlight (as is the case with a reflection nebula).<\/p>
Over the years IC 1805 has been designated as the ‘Heart Nebula’ due to its resemblance to the shape of a human heart.<\/p>
It’s one of many nebulae that have been given nicknames by astronomers because they resemble familiar objects, such as the Horsehead Nebula<\/a>, the Running Man Nebula<\/a> or the Wizard Nebula<\/a>.<\/p>
At the centre of the Heart Nebula is an open star cluster<\/a> called Melotte 15, which contains bright stars<\/a> that are about 50 times as massive as our own Sun.<\/p>
The stars of Melotte 15 are blasting the surrounding hydrogen and causing it to emit light, powering the Heart Nebula’s beautiful glow.<\/p>
The Soul Nebula<\/strong><\/h2> $\"IC$

The Heart Nebula is often imaged with IC 1848, which is known as the Soul Nebula. It’s also located in Cassiopeia and is 6,500 lightyears away.<\/p>
The Soul Nebula is a cloud of cosmic gas and dust 150 lightyears wide that’s being illuminated and carved by powerful streams of charged particles emanating from an open cluster of stars.<\/p>
Like the Heart Nebula, it too is an emission nebula.<\/p>
The Heart and Soul Nebulae are both located in the Perseus arm of our galaxy, the Milky Way<\/a>, and together stretch about 600 lightyears across.<\/p>

These star-forming regions are a popular target for astrophotographers, who love capturing the Heart and Soul together in one shot.<\/p>

You can find the Heart and Soul Nebula near the star Segin in Cassiopeia.<\/p>
Segin is the left-most star of the ‘W’ shape of Cassiopeia.<\/p>
