Credit: Pete Lawrence<\/figcaption><\/figure><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-eta-aquariid-meteor-shower-top-tips\"><strong>Eta Aquariid meteor shower top tips<\/strong><\/h2><p>The Eta Aquariid meteor shower is caused by Earth passing through debris left behind by Halley&#8217;s Comet, as Earth orbits the Sun.<\/p><p>Meteoroids from Halley\u2019s Comet enter Earth\u2019s atmosphere at 66km\/s, making them particularly fast meteors.<\/p><p>The radiant &#8211; the point from where the meteors appear to emanate &#8211; is near the Water Jar <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyatnightmagazine.com\/advice\/constellations-asterisms-what-difference\/\">asterism<\/a> in the constellation of Aquarius, the Water Bearer.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2121\" height=\"1414\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/48\/2019\/05\/GettyImages-532010014-297d340.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-61527\" title=\"\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">An Eta Aquariid meteor over Babcock Wildlife Refuge, Florida, USA. Credit: Diana Robinson Photography \/ Getty Images<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>On 6 May, the best time to look for Eta Aquariids is 02:00 BST (01:00 UT) until the onset of dawn.<\/p><p>The Eta Aquariid shower has a zenithal hourly rate (ZHR) of 40 meteors per hour.<\/p><p>ZHR is how many meteors you might see under perfect conditions. The actual amount you see will be fewer.<\/p><p>The Moon is out of the way!
