Mahdavi (San Francisco State University).<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Several theoretical particles have been put forward as candidates for dark matter, including one called the axion.<\/p><p>Recent simulations found that if axions packed together tightly, they would eventually grow to be the size of a star.<\/p><p>This dark star would be highly unstable and eventually explode, leaving scars on the surrounding normal matter.<\/p><p>These scars could be observable using the upcoming Square Kilometre Array telescope.\u00a0<\/p><p>\u201cAxions are one of the prime candidates for dark matter,\u201d says Malcolm Fairbairn from King\u2019s College London.<\/p><p>&#8220;We discovered that they have the capacity to heat the Universe just like supernovae and ordinary stars after coming together in dense clumps.<\/p><p>&#8220;Armed with that knowledge, we know with far more certainty where to point our instruments out in the field to find them.&#8221;<\/p><p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kcl.ac.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>www.kcl.ac.uk<\/strong><\/a><\/p> <\/body><\/html>\n<hr class=\"no-tts wp-block-separator\"\/>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Ezzy Pearson Published: Monday, 06 May 2024 at 09:03 AM The scars left behind by exploding \u2018dark stars\u2019 could allow astronomers to examine the invisible Universe, a new study has found.
