Credit: Sandro Bisaro \/ Getty Images<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Japan\u2019s Shinkansen bullet trains run at an impressive 320km\/h (200mph).<\/p><p>The top speed of a Formula 1 car is about 370km\/h (230mph)<\/p><p>A 747 jumbo jet has a top speed of around 1,060km\/h (660mph).<\/p><p>Concorde, when it was around, had a top speed of 2,179km\/h (1,354mph), while a MiG-25 jet fighter can hit 3,525km\/h (2,190mph).<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-saturn-v\"><strong>Saturn V<\/strong><\/h3><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"540\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/48\/2023\/05\/skylab-launch-f070ce3.jpg\" alt=\"A Saturn V rocket lifting off from NASA\u2019s Kennedy Space Center. Credit: NASA<\/figcaption><\/figure><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyatnightmagazine.com\/space-missions\/saturn-v-rocket-history-facts\">Saturn V<\/a> rockets blasted the Apollo missions into space at a much pacier 9,920km\/h (6,164mph).<\/p><p>But once you go into space \u2013 away from the pull of Earth\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyatnightmagazine.com\/space-science\/what-is-gravity-facts-about-force\">gravity<\/a>, and in a frictionless atmosphere \u2013 even those numbers pale into insignificance.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-space-shuttle\"><strong>Space Shuttle<\/strong><\/h3><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyatnightmagazine.com\/space-missions\/history-nasa-space-shuttle\">Space Shuttles<\/a> routinely zipped about at speeds of 28,163km\/h (17,500mph).<\/p><p>Voyager 1 is currently hurtling away from the Solar System at a positively nippy 62,136km\/h (38,610mph).<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-and-the-winner-is\"><strong>And the winner is&#8230;<\/strong><\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/48\/2021\/04\/Sun-solar-missions-88a2508.jpg\" alt=\"The Parker Solar Probe is one of many spacecraft studying the Sun.
