Credit: Pete Lawrence<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>A 9%-lit waning <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyatnightmagazine.com\/astrophotography\/moon\/crescent-moon-guide\">crescent Moon<\/a> sits 4.6\u00b0 northwest of Jupiter on the morning of <strong>3 July<\/strong>, an attractive sight if you have clear skies.<\/p><p>As July 2024 rolls on, the position of Jupiter gradually improves and by <strong>31 July<\/strong>, shining at mag. \u20132.0, the planet reaches an altitude of around 22\u00b0 above the eastern horizon under relatively dark skies.<\/p><p>The Moon revisits Jupiter on <strong>31 July<\/strong>, its 19%-lit waning crescent sitting 5\u00b0 north of the planet in the early hours. On this date, Jupiter will be visible from around 01:30 BST (00:30 UT)\u00a0<\/p><p>Throughout the month, mag. +0.9 Mars can be seen sneaking up on Jupiter from the west.<\/p><p>On <strong>1 July<\/strong>, Mars sits 22.2\u00b0 west of Jupiter in Aries, but by <strong>31 July<\/strong>, the separation will be just 7.3\u00b0, Mars having moved into a position north of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyatnightmagazine.com\/advice\/hyades-open-cluster\">Hyades open cluster<\/a>.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/48\/2023\/06\/pleiades-hyades-jupiter-6996c47.jpg\" alt=\"The Pleiades, the Hyades and Jupiter\" class=\"wp-image-120653\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The Pleiades, the Hyades and Jupiter.
