To see a meteor shower you want a wide view of the night sky.<\/p><p>Observing meteor showers is a good group activity, as you increase your chances of spotting a meteor &#8211; or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyatnightmagazine.com\/space-science\/shooting-star\">shooting star<\/a> &#8211; if you&#8217;re all observing a different patch of the sky<\/p><p>There are some great autumn meteor showers. Expect to see around 25 per hour.\u00a0<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-taurid-meteor-shower\"><strong>Taurid meteor shower<\/strong><\/h3><p>Also known as the Halloween Fireballs, the Taurids are visible from the end of October to the beginning of December, originating from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyatnightmagazine.com\/advice\/taurus-constellation\">Taurus<\/a>, peaking on 12\u201313 November.\u00a0<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2121\" height=\"1414\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/48\/2022\/11\/GettyImages-877760704-f2ab2f5.jpg\" alt=\"Leonid meteor in the sky above Arizona, USA. Credit: mdesigner125 \/ Getty<\/figcaption><\/figure><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-leonid-meteor-shower\"><strong>Leonid meteor shower<\/strong><\/h3><p>Peaking on 17\u201318 November, the Leonid meteor shower is one of the best autumn meteor showers and could produce some fireballs, streaking out of the constellation of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyatnightmagazine.com\/advice\/leo-constellation\">Leo<\/a>.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-geminid-meteor-shower\"><strong>Geminid meteor shower<\/strong><\/h3><p>The Geminid meteor shower is a really impressive show of meteors that peaks on 14\u201315 December, producing around 150 meteors an hour originating from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyatnightmagazine.com\/advice\/constellation-gemini\">Gemini<\/a>. The Geminids peak occurs during a new Moon in 2023, promising excellent views.\u00a0<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-ursid-meteor-shower\"><strong>Ursid meteor shower<\/strong><\/h3><p>Ending the year, the Ursid meteor shower is sparse and coincides with a full Moon.
