Credit: Daniel Megias \/ iStock \/ Getty Images Plus <\/figcaption> <\/figure> <p>&#8220;How quickly the gas cools has a lot to do with the amount of molecular hydrogen,&#8221; says Yifan Lu, who led the study.<\/p> <p>&#8220;Hydrogen clouds in the early Universe had too much molecular hydrogen, and the gas cooled quickly and formed small halos instead of large clouds.&#8221;<\/p> <p>To prevent this from happening, Lu suggests some form of radiation could break apart the molecular hydrogen, so the clouds are slower to cool.<\/p> <p>One potential source of radiation is from an unlikely candidate \u2013 dark matter.<\/p> <figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"500\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/48\/2024\/03\/dark-matter-energy-difference.jpg\" alt=\"Hubble and Chandra X-ray Observatory image showing dark matter and hot gas in merging galaxy cluster Abell 520.
