Frattare <\/figcaption> <\/figure> <\/div> <\/div> <h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What&#8217;s going on?<\/strong><\/h2> <p>There&#8217;s quite a lot happening in this image and video of the Guitar Nebula!<\/p> <p>Astronomers say the fast rotation and strong <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyatnightmagazine.com\/space-science\/what-are-magnetic-fields-how-do-they-affect-universe\">magnetic fields<\/a> of pulsars cause particle acceleration and high-energy radiation, which produces matter and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyatnightmagazine.com\/space-science\/antimatter\">antimatter <\/a>particles.<\/p> <p>In other words, energy is being converted into mass.<\/p> <p>The x-rays seen by Chandra are generated by particles spiralling along the pulsar&#8217;s magnetic field lines.<\/p> <figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full has-lightbox\"> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"864\" height=\"688\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/48\/2024\/11\/guitar_optical.jpg\" alt=\"Optical view of the Guitar Nebula.
