FROM THE BBC WILDLIFE ARCHIVE: February 1995

Nature’s soap operas

A Valentine portfolio of animals ‘in love’ is the cover feature of the February 1995 issue: “St Valentine’s feast day falls in the season that many of our birds choose to court and build their nests. And that’s our excuse for a collection of unashamedly appealing images, with some fascinating stories behind them.” Images include king penguins in a ‘pre-mating cuddle’ and a prairie dog ‘kissing’ its mate. “Proximity doesn’t always mean intimacy, but it’s a fair bet there’s something going on…” states BBC Wildlife. The photo story publicises A Wild Romance, BBC One’s Valentine special.
