There’s plenty of life among the deer and departed

HOT ON THE HEELS OF OUR SEARCH TO FIND the UK’s favourite places for wildlife, which marked our 60th birthday earlier this year (discoverwildlife.com/60faves), Sir David Attenborough has taken his own epic tour of these islands for Wild Isles, a new five-part series on BBC One.

Sir David says, “In the British Isles, as well as astonishing scenery there are extraordinary animal dramas and wildlife spectacles to match anything I have seen on my global travels.”

And you can find it everywhere. For our cover feature, Jules Cox photographed roe deer in English graveyards, including a doe and her offspring that feature in the series.

I’ll confess, of all the places I think of to watch wildlife, my local cemetery was never on my bucket list. But, as Jules’s shots show, there’s so much to be seen even in places of eternal rest.
