The winning images from the British Ecological Society photography competition – Capturing Ecology – have been announced.

The top prize was awarded to Damien Esquerre for his photo of a bearded dragon basking in the sun of a eucalypt woodland in Australia.

The competition celebrates the diversity of ecology, capturing flora and fauna from across the globe. Here, we take a look at the 23 winning and highly commended images.
