OTTER by Joshua Copping, Oxfordshire I was recently lucky enough to enjoy a few days on the Isle of Mull. I spent most of one morning photographing this individual, watching him hunt in the kelp; he returned to shore only when he’d caught a big prey item such as a lobster or octopus. After a […]

DALMATIAN PELICANS Andrew Edge, Essex This was taken from a small fishing boat on Lake Kerkini, Greece, early on a misty morning. The pelicans moved towards us as we drifted. I attempted to shoot with overexposure, keeping the rear two birds slightly out of focus in order to add to the atmosphere.

ASIAN ELEPHANTS by Trikansh Sharma, Rishikesh, India These elephants come to the grasslands every afternoon to feed and stay there until late evening. I took this photograph at sunset, with the clouds lit up in orange and yellow.

LADYBIRD LARVA Sritam Kumar Sethy, Odisha, India I love shooting in macro and had been searching in my yard for insects to photograph when I noticed this ladybird larva perched on the edge of the tendril of a pumpkin plant. It was fascinating to watch and learn about this species, which I’d never encountered before.

PURPLE-RUMPED SUNBIRD Soumya Chakraborty, Kolkata, India I saw this male purple-rumped sunbird perched on an ornamental banana and its colour took my breath away. Although the low light posed a slight problem, I was fortunate enough to be able create a bokeh background, adding interest.

RED FOX Alexandre and Chloe Bès, France We observed this sleeping fox by chance during a walk in the Netherlands. His eyes were closed but the eyelids were moving as if he was exploring a new world in his dreams. He had been calmly walking before he headed to this pile of sand. The sun […]

MANTA RAY by Lewis Burnett, Aberdeenshire When the conditions are just right on Ningaloo Reef in Western Australia, the bays fill up with a rich plankton soup. Reef mantas can be found barrel rolling, sucking up and filtering out as much food as they can. It was a phenomenal sight to witness.

BANDED DEMOISELLE by Michael Blacknell, Hampshire This male banded demoiselle revealed his vibrant metallic colouring while drying off the night’s dew. As he was still in a state of torpor, I was able to set up a tripod and get this shot. It’s always a pleasure to capture these spectacular insects when they arrive back […]
