When is Eden: Untamed Planet on TV?

The first episode of Eden: Untamed Planet aired on Sunday 8th May 2022, and all episodes are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.

It was released in the USA in July 2021.

What is Eden: Untamed Planet about?

Each episode of the series looks at different location around the world which has remained unchanged, and could be described as an “eden.”

The locations featured are:

Episode One – Borneo: Sacred Forest

Over 60,000 plant and animal species are found in Borneo, 6,000 of which are endemic (found nowhere else). Species included in this episode include proboscis monkeys, saltwater crocodilesorangutans, termites, and pitcher plants.

Episode Two – Namib: Skeleton Coast and Beyond

The Namib desert is one of the oldest deserts in the old, and a land of extremes – with temperatures rising above 50°C and annual rainfall measuring just a few millimetres. A range of species have adapted to these harsh conditions, including African elephants, oryx, lions and giraffes.

Episode Three – Luangwa: The Emerald Valley

The Luangwa valley is located at the southern end of the Great East African Rift Valley, and is home to two national parks: North Luangwa National Park and South Luangwa National Park. The former is home to Zambia’s only black rhinos and the latter is known as the ‘Valley of the leopard’. This episode also features hippos, zebras, carmine bee eaters and impala.

Episode Four – Galápagos: Enchanted Isles

The Galápagos Islands are renowned throughout the world for its wildlife, and being visited by Charles Darwin – the finches of the Islands helped in Dawrin to form his theory of evolution. The episode includes a variety of species including marine iguanas, Galápagos sea lions, and Nazca boobies.

Episode Five –Patagonia: The Ends of the Earth

Patagonia is a geographical region covering the southern part of South America, and includes parts of Chile and Argentina. The region has a variety of habitats from the high Andes to coastal fjords, and is home to species such as pumas, Andean cats, Magellanic penguins, guanacos and flamingos.

Episode Six –Alaska: Last American Frontier

The USA’s most northerly state of Alaska contains temperate rainforests, which are home to impressive animals such as brown bears (including two subspecies, grizzly bears and Kodiak bears), moose and bald eagles.

Who narrates Eden: Untamed Planet?

Eden: Untamed Planet is narrated by the actress Helena Bonham Carter CBE, known for playing Bellatrix Lestrange in the Harry Porter series, Mrs Lovett in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Princess Margaret in seasons three and four of Netflix’s The Crown, and a wide variety of other roles. She has also narrated a natural history series for Netflix called Wild Babies.
