Cold as ice <\/strong><\/h5>\n\n

It had been snowing heavily all night where we were in Iceland and the temperature had dropped rapidly. This blue morph Arctic fox had been curled up against a structure to avoid the worst of the storm, and had woken covered in ice and frozen snow. It stretched itself and began walking, breaking up the ice on its fur in the process. It didn\u2019t seem to mind at all, carrying on with its business as normal. <\/span><\/p>\n\n

A lesser flamingo slowly approaches this pied kingfisher in Amboseli National Park, Kenya. With my eye on the viewfinder, I waited patiently for the larger bird to become visible in the background of my shot. It passed only a few centimetres from the \u2018king of fishing\u2019, without causing it to fly away. This image is an example of two individuals totally accepting cohabitation.<\/p>\n\n

A colony of aphids amongst the stamens of an anemone in my springtime Somerset garden. I took this shot because I thought it was so surreallooking. The plant was destroyed by the population of aphids reproducing on it.<\/p>\n\n

I was on a safari to photograph the elusive Indian grey wolf when my guide noticed an alpha male staring at us from a distance. We stopped our car and waited. It came closer, pausing just a few metres away to check us out.<\/p>\n\n

I set out just before sunrise to try to find some dew-covered insects. Within seconds I spotted this common blue butterfly among the long grass, looking like a beautiful jewel.<\/p>\n\n

I spotted these hooded merganser drakes gathered around a single female at my local nature reserve at Lake Betz. They went to impressive lengths to woo her, raising their white head crests, shaking and pumping their heads and uttering frog-like croaks.<\/p>\n\n
