From birth, the young will stick close to their mothers for safety, and this shaggy trio almost form the silhouette of a single ox braced against the biting Arctic winds. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"article-full-body sans-serif\">Wolves pose the biggest threat and if a pack approaches a herd of musk oxen, they will form a fearsome defensive circle around their infants, with their sharp horns facing outwards. When necessary, a mother will charge at a predator to scare them away.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"article-full-body sans-serif\">But in more peaceful times, winter days for this herbivorous bovine are spent pawing at the snow for grass, lichen and moss. An extremely thick coat made of outer \u2018guard\u2019 hairs and super-insulative, shorter \u2018qiviut\u2019 hairs keeps them warm. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"article-full-body sans-serif\">Thankfully, these magestic relics of the last Ice Age are legally protected in Canada, as well as Alaska, Siberia and Norway, where they have been successfully reintroduced. <\/p>\n\n<section class=\"wp-block-uagb-section uagb-section__wrap uagb-section__background-color uagb-block-97e43ccf-b45f-439a-99af-ef376d6b1c29 article-boxout\"><div class=\"uagb-section__overlay\"><\/div><div Israeli wildlife photographer Amit Eshel, who also creates animal-inspired jewellery. \u201cIt\u2019s a miracle that they\u2019ve survived the changes of our planet to this day \u2013 they are here to
