The world\u2019s largest frog species is very aptly named \u2013 the goliath frog, also known as the giant slippery frog and goliath bullfrog. Native to Equatorial Guinea and Cameroon, it can grow up to 32cm in length and weigh up to 3.25kg.<\/p>\n

Despite its remarkable size, it doesn\u2019t begin with a head start over other frog species. Instead, its tadpoles are the same size as an average frog tadpole.<\/p>\n

During a recent survey by the\u00a0 Bristol Zoological Society<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0 INDEFOR-AP<\/a>, the national park service of Equatorial Guinea, the species was seen in Equatorial Guinea for the first time in almost two decades.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen the team came out of the forest they were overjoyed to share the news. This incredible frog hasn\u2019t been officially confirmed in the national park by INDEFOR-AP for almost two decades,\u201d said Dr Gr\u00e1inne McCabe, Head of Field Conservation and Science at Bristol Zoological Society.<\/p>\n
\u201cHowever, it was only seen in one small section of the survey area, indicating it needs to be better protected. Now that we know the species has not disappeared, we can study the amphibian in more detail, monitor its presence and help protect this endangered species.\u201d<\/p>\n
