The lemurs get really scared if they hear a dog barking, even if it’s far off in the distance,” says Chen-Kraus. “They’re just more comfortable up in the trees if they’re feeling threatened.”

Learn more about lemurs:

Lemur guide

Ring-tailed lemur guide

News (2020): Pheromone identified in ‘stink flirting’ lemurs

News (2019): Viral videos of pet lemurs may be fuelling the illegal trade of endangered species

Main image: Tree hugging Verreaux’s sifaka lemurs. © Chloe Chen-Kraus

By Stuart Blackman Published: Friday, 28 October 2022 at 12:00 am Arboreal primates spend much of their lives grappling with trees.
