To celebrate our 60th birthday, here at BBC Wildlife<\/em> magazine, we asked 60 people from our wonderful network of writers, presenters, photographers and conservationists to share their favourite places in the UK for wildlife. Two of those places are in Northern Ireland.<\/p>\n

Lough Erne is one of the few remaining strongholds for breeding waders in Northern Ireland. It is here in springtime that one can still hear the bubbling sound of the curlew coming from the islands – a call of the wild that for me seems to connect viscerally in much the same way as the howl of the wolf. Lapwings tumble through the air accompanied by their evocative calls.
