{"id":27946,"date":"2023-05-10T09:05:21","date_gmt":"2023-05-10T07:05:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.discoverwildlife.com\/?p=76742"},"modified":"2023-05-10T09:35:39","modified_gmt":"2023-05-10T07:35:39","slug":"springwatch-2023-filming-locations","status":"publish","type":"rss_feed","link":"https:\/\/c01.purpledshub.com\/bbcwildlife\/rss_feed\/springwatch-2023-filming-locations\/","title":{"rendered":"Springwatch 2023 filming locations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"rssexcerpt\"> We reveal the filming locations for Springwatch 2023 <\/p><p class=\"rssauthor\">By BBC Wildlife Magazine\n                \t\t<\/p><p class=\"rssbyline\">Published: Wednesday, 10 May 2023 at 12:00 am<\/p><hr class=\"no-tts wp-block-separator\"\/><?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\" standalone=\"yes\"?>\n<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><body> <p>Springwatch is back on our screens for three weeks from 29 May, and with it there will be some new locations that promise spectacular wildlife footage \u2013 live and prerecorded.<\/p>\n<p>Here we take a look at where <em>Springwatch<\/em> 2023 is being filmed<\/p>\n<h2><em>Springwatch<\/em> 2023 filming locations<\/h2>\n<h3>RSPB Arne<\/h3>\n<p>The main location for Springwatch 2023 will be RSPB Arne in Dorset.<\/p>\n<p>RSPB Arne comes alive at this time of year with rare breeding birds, specialised heathland insects and all six of the UK\u2019s native species of reptiles.<\/p>\n<p>Set against the backdrop of Poole Harbour, RSPB Arne seems to have it all. Famous for its wide-open heathlands where reptiles roam, <em>Springwatch<\/em> will be exploring ancient oak woodlands, farmland and reedbeds. If that wasn\u2019t enough, mudflats, scrub, wet woodland and acid grassland are just some of the habitats where the huge variety of wildlife which call Arne home can be found.<\/p>\n<h3>Poole Harbour<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Iolo Williams<\/strong> will be setting out in search of Poole Harbour\u2019s new <strong><a href=\"&quot;https:\/\/www.discoverwildlife.com\/animal-facts\/birds\/ospreys-facts\/&quot;\">ospreys<\/a> <\/strong>and <strong><a href=\"&quot;https:\/\/www.discoverwildlife.com\/animal-facts\/birds\/facts-about-white-tailed-eagles\/&quot;\">white-tailed eagles<\/a><\/strong> to find out about the successful reintroduction projects that have brought these birds back to the south of England for the first time in hundreds of years.<\/p>\n<h3>\u00a0Durlston Country Park<\/h3>\n<p>Durlston Country Park has some of the most spectacular wildflower meadows anywhere in the UK, which are home to incredibly rare and beautiful orchids and butterflies.<\/p>\n<h3>Swanage Bay<\/h3>\n<p><strong>At <\/strong>Swanage Bay <strong>Iolo Williams<\/strong>\u00a0 will be catching up with local people to uncover the hidden marine world beneath the waves whilst a stop at the National Trust\u2019s Winspit Quarry takes in one of the most unique bat roosts in the country.<\/p>\n<h3>\u00a0Purbeck Heaths<\/h3>\n<p>The Purbeck Heaths is a 3,331 hectare national nature reserve that spans Studland, Corfe Castle, Arne, Church Knowle, and Steeple with Tyneham in the County of Dorset.<\/p>\n<h3>Isle of Purbeck<\/h3>\n<p>The\u00a0Isle of Purbeck is a beautiful peninsula\u00a0in\u00a0Dorset, which is home to some stunning wildlife<\/p>\n<h3>Bass Rock<\/h3>\n<p>Maggie Sheldon has been working on Bass Rock for 25 years and has come to know every nook and cranny. No one knows the population of gannets that come to the rock to breed every spring better. <em>Springwatch<\/em> follows her for a \u2018day in the life of\u2019 experience, finding out what it takes to care for this inhospitable habitat and monitor the birds that call it home.<\/p>\n<section class=\"&quot;highlight\"> <div class=\"&quot;highlight__content\" editor-content=\"\"> \n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"&quot;https:\/\/www.discoverwildlife.com\/holidays-days-out\/uk\/where-to-see-gannets-in-the-uk\/&quot;\">Where to see gannets in the UK<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> <\/p><\/div> <\/section> <h3>North Wales<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"&quot;https:\/\/www.discoverwildlife.com\/people\/12-facts-you-should-know-about-gillian-burke\/&quot;\"><strong>Gillian Burke<\/strong><\/a> takes an adventure into the habitat and species that call North Wales home. From the specialists of Snowdonia National Park to the seabird colonies of the coast, she\u2019ll explore much of the region across the three-week broadcast.<\/p>\n<p>She\u2019ll begin her journey in Yr Wyddfa (Snowdonia) National Park with Llanberis providing the perfect backdrop to kick off the road trip before heading to the Gwaith Powdwr Nature Reserve. Here she will investigate how this post-industrial landscape has been reclaimed by nature with species such as lesser horseshoe bats and palmate newts all making the most of the remnants of the former explosives factory.<\/p>\n<p>The next leg of Gillian\u2019s journey takes her to the Menai Straits where viewers will take a deep dive into the research conducted by Bangor University\u2019s School of Ocean Sciences uncovering the life that these waterways support. There will be a detailed look at plankton and uncover some of the changing seasons of our seas. She then follows the coastline down to the Ll\u0177n Peninsula to find Wales\u2019s rarest bee species and visit one of the country\u2019s largest seagrass meadows at Porthdinllaen.<\/p>\n<p>For the final week Gillian will marvel at the seabird spectacles to be found on Ynys M\u00f4n\u00a0(Anglesey) and gets closer to <a href=\"&quot;https:\/\/www.discoverwildlife.com\/animal-facts\/mammals\/facts-about-red-squirrels\/&quot;\">red squirrels<\/a> than she ever has before.
