Gradually, as people paid more attention to the biology of those animals, it became clear that some \u2018fish\u2019 belonged to other groups, such as reptiles or mammals.<\/p><p>This left a motley collection of aquatic vertebrates, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwildlife.com\/animal-facts\/marine-animals\/amazing-shark-facts\">sharks,<\/a> stingrays, hagfish, sturgeon, lungfish, goldfish and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwildlife.com\/animal-facts\/fish\/facts-about-bluefin-tuna\"> tuna<\/a>. They are all animals that (usually) breathe through gills, have bodies covered in scales (though not always) and limbs in the form of fins.<\/p><div class=\"is-layout-flow is-layout-flow wp-block-group highlight-box\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\"><h4 id=\"h-learn-more-about-fish\">Learn more about fish:<\/h4><ul><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwildlife.com\/animal-facts\/fish\/do-fish-pee\">Do fish pee?<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwildlife.com\/animal-facts\/fish\/do-fish-sleep\">Do fish sleep?<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwildlife.com\/animal-facts\/fish\/can-fish-drown\">Can fish drown?<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwildlife.com\/animal-facts\/fish\/weirdest-fish\">Weirdest fish: 12 of the strangest fish in the world<\/a><\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/div><p>The problem is that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwildlife.com\/animal-facts\/birds\/\">birds<\/a>, frogs, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwildlife.com\/animal-facts\/reptiles\/why-do-lizards-run-on-two-legs\">lizards,<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwildlife.com\/animal-facts\/marine-animals\/sea-turtle-types\">turtles<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwildlife.com\/animal-facts\/mammals\/\">mammals<\/a> and all the other vertebrates evolved from fish ancestors.
