These small rodents, from America,<em> <\/em>have short forelimbs and long hind limbs. They can also leap like their namesake. They have a distinctive appearance, a large black body, a white underside, a white patch above and behind the eye, \u2018saddle patch\u2019 behind the dorsal fin.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">King cobra<\/h3><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2121\" height=\"1414\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/62\/2024\/02\/king-cobra.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-95512\" style=\"width:840px;height:auto\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Getty Images<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The king cobra is the world\u2019s longest venomous snake, at an impressive four metres on average, with a maximum record of 5.85 metres.<\/p><p>Like the Indian cobra, the regally named king cobra holds a special cultural significance in the Indian subcontinent. It is regarded as the national reptile of India, but despite this is unfortunately threatened by both habitat destruction and poaching for use in traditional Chinese medicine. Killing a king cobra is a serious offence in India with imprisonment of up to six years!<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Kingfisher<\/h3><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2121\" height=\"1414\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/62\/2020\/11\/Kingfisher.-GettyImages-173659370-fffe789.jpg\" alt=\"A kingfisher on a frosty perch in the Midlands, UK. \u00a9 Mike Lane\/Getty\" class=\"wp-image-40640\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Getty Images<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Did you know there are over 100 species of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwildlife.com\/animal-facts\/birds\/kingfisher-guide-facts-best-places-to-see-film\">kingfisher<\/a> worldwide? However, only the common kingfisher,\u00a0<em>Alcedo atthis<\/em>, breeds in the UK. With its stunning azure and copper plumage, the kingfisher is an unmistakable bird when spotted, even if it&#8217;s only glimpsed as it flies by.
