As humans reshape almost everywhere on Earth, mammals must adapt. Many of them are doing this, and often in new and surprising ways.<\/p><p>In the busy fish markets of Chile, sea lions have become opportunistic feeders, foraging on marine scraps. But living so close to human civilisation has brought them into fierce conflict with stray dogs.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">South American sea lions compete for space with dogs on Chilean beaches. These protected areas create essential space for animals like the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwildlife.com\/animal-facts\/mammals\/mammal-cheetah-guide-facts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cheetah<\/a>, but they also bring them closer to people than ever before.
