Credit: Hem Manita \/ Fauna &amp; Flora<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/url.uk.m.mimecastprotect.com\/s\/JEZCC09DNcgmlAEHDs_o1?domain=fauna-flora.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Siamese crocodile<\/a>\u00a0is one of the world\u2019s rarest crocodiles, largely due to decades of hunting and habitat loss. They are categorised as Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List. <\/p><p>The species was rediscovered in the wild in 2000, after which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fauna-flora.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fauna &amp; Flora<\/a> and its government partners set up Cambonia&#8217;s first conservation breeding programme, which sees Siamese crocodiles bred in captivity before being released into the wild in remote sites protected by local communities.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/62\/2024\/04\/Siamese-crocodiles-released-in-Cambonia.jpg\" alt=\"Siamese crocodile team on patrol\" class=\"wp-image-98269\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Researchers paddle through the Cardamom Mountains. Credit: Hem Manita \/ Fauna &amp; Flora<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Since 2012, conservations have successfully released a total of 196 Siamese crocodiles in safe areas in the Cardamom Mountains.<\/p><p>Fauna &amp; Flora\u2019s Cambodia team worked alongside\u00a0Cambodia\u2019s Forestry Administration of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and\u00a0community wardens to attach acoustic tags to 25 of the crocodiles. <\/p><p>Researchers will use the tags to monitor the crocodiles&#8217; movements and to see whether they survive.
