This gives it the ability to \u2018download\u2019 important survival data.<\/strong><\/p> <p>Long-term memory is very important to elephants, both socially and ecologically. They roam across vast areas and need to be able to navigate directly to water and food.<\/p> <p>It&#8217;s also important for them to recognise individuals within their social network; this ability is particularly evident when they come across a dead elephant.<\/p> <ul class=\"wp-block-list\"> <li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwildlife.com\/animal-facts\/mammals\/elephant-calves-suck-their-trunks\">Baby elephant suck their trunks, like human babies suck their thumbs.
