Condor Cycles
Central London
What’s its history?
● On Gray’s Inn Road since 1948, and still in the same family. Founder Monty Young’s son Grant is chair; his son Sebastian runs things.
What makes it special?
● A local bike shop in central London. “We have everything,” says Condor’s Claire Beaumont, “either in store or
in our south London warehouse, down to colours of bar tape or niche 1980s Campag brake pads. Lots of bits of old bikes, too.”
Why is a local bike shop so important?
● “We had a guy whose cranks freakishly snapped this morning, and we got him back on the road straight away. In a real shop you can try things on, speak to people, get the look and feel of things before you buy.”
Famous customers
● Mick Jagger, Eric Clapton and Benedict Cumberbatch have bought bikes here. Harrison Ford visited in 2017.
What’s in store?
● Condor bikes only for sale, but any bikes serviced and fixed (Brompton specialist).
