Komoot’s proprietary mapping is now available for Premium subscribers on Garmin devices compatible with the Komoot Connect IQ app.

The new service enables Komoot Premium users to navigate rides and other activities on a Garmin bike computer or smartwatch using Komoot’s mapping interface.

Users will be able to utilise features such as offline navigation, turn-by-turn navigation and updates to Tours (Komoot parlance for a route), which the brand says gives maximum en-route flexibility.

The ride-sharing and route-planning app has worked with Garmin to build the new interface, with Komoot saying it wanted to give Garmin users a similar experience to the Komoot mobile app.

The mapping displays large turn arrows, while a Zoom&Move function enables users to explore their surroundings to find alternative routes, similar to Garmin’s native mapping software.

Komoot’s interface also enables users to enter Dark mode. This is said to help when reading the device screen in low-light situations, giving the map a high-contrast colour palette.

Other Komoot Connect IQ functionalities, such as Tour, are accessible through the interface, which enables for filtered and customisable navigation.

Route changes need to be made via the Komoot app, which then syncs the updated route to the Garmin device.

Some users have reported the new interface is isolated from the rest of the Garmin system, reducing compatibility and data sharing.

To set up the Komoot map on Garmin, users will need to first download the Komoot Connect IQ app to their Garmin device through the Garmin Connect IQ Store.

Users can now use the ‘Navigate with device’ function to open a saved Tour on their Garmin device and start navigating.

Those using devices with mapping can choose their preferred interface, picking between the Komoot map or Garmin’s standard map.
