Soon after she she completed her Around The World record, Lael Wilcox spoke to Liam and Felix about component choices, getting enough sleep and how people came to join her
Last week, Lael Wilcox completed her Around The World by bike attempt, smashing the previous women’s record by close to 16 days.
Wilcox rode 8,125 miles in 108 days, 12 hours and 12 minutes. That means she rode roughly 166 miles per day, climbing 630,000ft in the process.
But what does it take to complete a ride like this? Liam Cahill and Felix Smith spoke to Wilcox a day after she returned home to discuss the tech behind a record-breaking, around-the-world ride.
Wilcox explains why she chose a Specialized Roubaix SL8 for her record attempt, the specific components she used, how she got through eight sets of tyres and why Super Glue was a valuable addition to her toolbag.
The new world record holder also tells Liam and Felix about how she dealt with the mental challenges of the ride, the importance of sleep and how thousands of people joined her along the way.
