Women’s pro cycling continues to be on a roll, buoyed by the return of the multi-day Tour de France Femmes in 2022. There’s now a women’s version of all the grand tours, albeit over shorter distances and fewer stages.

It’s not just about the big races though, with early-season Classics also having women’s races and many offering equal prize money to the men’s races. Pay for professional women cyclists has also risen significantly, at least in the Women’s WorldTour. But riders in lower-ranked teams are often still struggling.

The lower barriers to entry continue to attract sponsors to the Women’s WorldTour and many men’s teams now have a women’s equivalent. There’s more diversity in equipment suppliers reflecting this, as shown below, although Women’s WorldTour teams are not riding inferior equipment to the men.

Next is a summary of trends and changes in the Women’s WorldTour, followed by a detailed run-down of the bikes and components raced by each team.

Sponsor swap-outs

Two women’s teams have left the WorldTour for 2024, EF Education-Tibco-SVB, which has disbanded (its de facto replacement, EF Education-Cannondale is currently a UCI Continental team), and Liv Racing TeqFind, which has merged with Liv-AlUla-Jayco.

Their places have been taken by AG Insurance-Soudal Team, the homologue of the men’s Soudal-QuickStep, and Ceratizit-WNT Pro Cycling.

Some title sponsors have changed, but most teams have the same names on their jerseys as last year.

One sponsor name change is Roland Cycling, which has lost its Israel-Premier Tech co-sponsorship. This was announced in December 2023, with the team saying the change was the result of a difference in vision for its future. The team’s equipment sponsors haven’t changed though.

Human Powered Health was riding Felt bikes in 2023. But in late 2023, Felt was put up for sale due to what its Austrian owner called difficult economic conditions. Factor Bikes has stepped in to provide its Ostro VAM and O2 VAM to the team, its second Women’s WorldTour outfit, alongside Roland.

Elsewhere, name changes in the women’s teams reflect those in the equivalent men’s teams for Team DSM-Firmenich PostNL and Team Visma | Lease a bike.

No Campagnolo, but plenty of SRAM

There’s no Campagnolo representation in the women’s peloton again this year or, for the first time, in the men’s. That’s despite Campagnolo launching its latest Super Record Wireless electronic groupset last year.

Campagnolo’s website states that “Campagnolo’s history and heritage come from professional cycling. Sponsoring professional teams is not only a promotional tool but the fundamental terrain for developing and testing products in the most extreme conditions”.

It will be interesting to see if the brand returns to team sponsorship in the future.

Meanwhile, SRAM continues to provide groupsets to six Women’s WorldTour teams, one down from 2023, with Shimano supplying eight of the remaining nine teams. That’s in contrast to the men’s WorldTour, where 14 of 18 teams run Shimano Dura-Ace.

Ceratizit-WNT Pro Cycling is using the FSA K-Force WE electronic groupset, the only WorldTour women’s or men’s team to do so.

2024 Women’s WorldTour bikes | Who’s riding what?

As with the men’s WorldTour, teams get the best that’s on offer from their sponsors, including brands’ top-spec bikes, groupsets and wheels. Here’s a summary table of who is riding what this year, with more detail below.

A new entrant to the top tier of women’s cycling, AG Insurance-Soudal Team is the women’s equivalent of the Soudal-QuickStep men’s team and runs the same mix of Specialized bikes and Specialized-heavy component spec. That’s principally the Tarmac SL8 road bike with Roval wheels and Shimano Dura-Ace drivetrains.

Canyon//SRAM Racing (CSR)

Canyon//SRAM continues on the same mix of bikes and components as last year, with the Aeroad its bike of choice for road stages. As you’d expect, SRAM is heavily represented too, with SRAM Red AXS, Zipp wheels, Time pedals and Hammerhead Karoo 2 computers showcasing its tech.

Look out for new shoes from Canyon and an update to SRAM Red AXS this year.

Ceratizit-WNT Pro Cycling (WNT)

Another new entrant for 2024, Ceratizit-WNT Pro Cycling was the 10th best team overall in 2023, earning elevation to women’s cycling’s top tier. It’s riding bikes from Orbea, complete with wheels from Orbea’s Oquo brand.

The team is running the FSA K-Force WE 12-speed wireless electronic groupset on its bikes, the only top-tier team to do so. FSA is also represented in the team’s power meter and bars.

FDJ-Suez (FST)

While Lapierre has dropped its bike sponsorship of the Groupama-FDJ men’s WorldTour team after 22 years, it continues to supply its Xelius (climbing bike) and Aircode (aero bike) to the equivalent FDJ-Suez women’s team.

No other sponsors have jumped ship either, with Shimano supplying its groupsets and Prologo its saddles.

Fenix-Deceuninck (FED)

Canyon is the main equipment sponsor of the women’s Fenix-Deceuninck team, the sister to the Alpecin-Fenix men’s team. Its roster of other equipment is the same as the men’s team too, with Shimano groupsets and wheels, Vittoria tyres and Wahoo computers, as in 2023.

Human Powered Health (HPH)

While last year, the Human Powered Health Women’s WorldTour team was riding Felt bikes, as discussed above, this year it has switched to Factor. The team has the choice of the Ostro VAM or the lighter-weight O2 VAM

Wheels and cockpit come from Black Inc, Factor’s component brand. The rest of the line-up of suppliers remain as last year, with Wahoo supplying pedals and computers.

Lidl-Trek (LTK)

The Lidl-Trek women’s team rides the same bikes and equipment as the men’s team. The headline bike is the Generation 7 Trek Madone SLR, with Bontrager Aeolus wheels and Pirelli tyres. Look out though for an Émonda update, with what looks to be a new lightweight/aero bike spotted under the men’s team’s Giulio Ciccone.

Trek’s Bontrager brand is heavily represented in other components, although SRAM supplies its groupsets and Time pedals and Wahoo its computers.

Liv-AlUla-Jayco (LAJ)

Liv-AlUla–Jayco’s Giant-heavy configuration continues this year, with Giant supplying its Liv-branded bikes, Cadex wheels and saddles, and even the team’s computers coming from Giant. It’s only the CEMA bearings and Shimano groupsets and pedals that are off-brand.

Movistar Team (MOV)

Movistar is another women’s team with a SRAM-dominated setup that’s the same as the men’s team. Its Canyon bikes are equipped with Zipp wheels, SRAM Red AXS groupsets and SRAM power meters. This season, it has switched from Look to SRAM’s Time pedals as well.

Roland Cycling (CGS)

Roland Cycling continues with the same roster of brands as last year, even if it has lost its Israel-Premier Tech co-sponsor. It’s the second Women’s WorldTour team equipped with bikes by Factor and wheels and cockpits from Black Inc, while its drivetrain mixes Shimano with Rotor power meter cranksets and chainrings.

Team DSM is another team that has the same setup for its women’s and men’s teams, which hasn’t changed from last year. That means the Scott Foil RC aero road bike and Scott Plasma RC time trial bike. Both are set up with Shimano Dura-Ace drivetrains and wheels with Vittoria tyres. Other components come from Scott-owned Syncros.

Team SD Worx (SDW)

Last year’s most successful women’s team, SD Worx, continues its Specialized-dominated setup, with Specialized components and tyres, and Roval wheels. It’s again using a SRAM Red AXS groupset with Time pedals.

Team Visma | Lease a Bike (TVL)

The women’s Visma | Lease a Bike team, like the men’s, rides the full range of Cervélo performance bikes. That includes the S5 aero road bike and the R5 lightweight road bike as well as a range of more specialist machines. All are again equipped with SRAM components, Reserve wheels, Vittoria Corsa Pro tyres and Fizik saddles.

UAE Team ADQ (UAD)

UAE Team ADQ continues on the same Colnago V4RS and K.one bikes as last year, and as ridden by the men’s UAE Team Emirates team. Its components haven’t changed either, with Shimano providing groupsets and ENVE the team’s wheels.

Uno-X Mobility (UXM)

Another team with a slight name change for 2024, but otherwise retaining its 2023 configuration, Uno-X Mobility will again be riding bikes from Norwegian brand Dare. It’s the only team in either the women’s or men’s WorldTour using DT Swiss wheels in the coming season.
