Berria has announced the Belador Allroad – the Spanish brand’s first gravel bike, featuring a passive rear-suspension system that’s reminiscent of the Kingpin suspension found on Cannondale’s Topstone.

Berria says the bike is designed for “maximum performance” and is designed for the gravel racer, but tells us it can also take on light bikepacking duties.

As well as four models that share an identical carbon frame, there will also be a more affordable alloy model.

The Belador Allroad will retail from €1,750 for the alloy model and the carbon bikes range from €3,000 to €5,900. UK pricing is to be confirmed, but all are set to be available from September.

The bikes will not be available in the USA, although US customers can order directly from Berria.

Frame technology

The Belador looks racey standing still.
Berria

Berria says the Belador Allroad uses a HM2X carbon frame and fork, which features a mix of Toray T700 and T800 carbon fibres. The brand says this construction “offers a blend of low overall weight and high stiffness, while incorporating ride-dampening compliance”. The frame is claimed to weigh 1,060g in a size medium.

The Belador Allroad features top tube mounting for a bento box, and three bottle cage bolts on the down tube to customise its position. The frame forgoes additional mounting points on the underside of the down tube or on the fork.

The Belador features SRAM’s universal derailleur hanger (UDH) and can be run with either a 1x or 2x groupset, thanks to a removable front derailleur hanger.

Berria says clearance is rated to 700c x 44mm or 650b x 47mm gravel tyres. The brand has obliquely profiled the inside faces of the chainstays and seatstays to avoid mud accumulating.

The press release for the bike quotes two different sets of geometry figures. Looking closely at the bike, it appears the fork features a flip chip.

Flip chips are typically used to allow riders to subtly adjust a geometry of the bike. We expect the same has been done here, but we have contacted Berria for clarification.

Active flex concept

Enter the AFC pivot…
Berria

Berria has incorporated its Active Flex Concept (AFC) at the seat tube / seatstay junction.

The brand says the system offers “increased comfort and decreased rider fatigue… while improving traction, grip and control when the course becomes technical”.

The pivot is said to offer up to 26mm of movement, absorbing increased vibrations.

It’s not just the pivot that delivers the comfort. Berria points to the specific carbon layup and the 27.2mm carbon seatpost as also being key factors contributing to the Belador Allroad’s ride quality.

Integration

""
The cables are routed through Berria’s proprietary stem.
Berria

Berria has opted to head down the integrated route with its gear cables and hydraulic hoses.

The cables are routed through the underside of the Avanforce ICS2 stem and in front of the fork steerer tube, which is oval in shape rather than round.

They pass through the upper headset bearing before heading down the down tube to their respective locations. You will need to disconnect your hydraulic hoses whenever you replace a headset bearing.

Geometry

""
The Belador’s geometry is designed for “maximum performance”.
Berria

Berria says it has opted for “an aggressive geometry” and there will be five sizes available from XS to XL.

The head tube angle on a size medium is 71 degrees, which is coupled with a 45mm fork rake. Berria says this is to “keep steering inputs predictable”.

This is on the slacker side for a gravel race bike, compared with the Specialized S-Works Crux and Trek Checkpoint, which both hover around the 72-degree mark, although the Ridley Kanzo Adventure is slacker than the Berria by half a degree.

The seat tube angle is 74.5 degrees and is paired with a 398mm reach. The seat tube angle is on the steeper sides compared to the aforementioned frames, but the reach is a little shorter.

Berria says the short 419mm chainstay length “ensures whip-like reactions on challenging terrain”. They are both slightly dropped and flared “for powerful acceleration, minimising energy wastage”.

The compact head tube is said to “ensure stiffness and [a] connected feel needed to manipulate the bike in moments of aggressive acceleration and turn in”.
