Cannondale has given its new 2022 Moterra Neo electric mountain bike range the latest Bosch Smart System, with a substantial 750Wh battery and up to 85Nm of torque from Bosch’s Performance Line CX motor, alongside geometry updates.

The new Moterra Neo will be available in three platforms, each distinguished by their frame material and travel: the Moterra Neo Alloy, Moterra Neo Carbon and Moterra Neo Carbon LT (long travel).

Pricing starts at £5,000 / $5,850 / €5,499 for the Moterra Neo Alloy, £7,000 / $7,250 / €7,499 for the Moterra Neo Carbon and £7,250 / $7,250 / €7,499 for the Moterra Carbon LT.

Up close

The 2022 Moterra Neo Carbon and Alloy models run with 150mm of suspension travel at each end, while the LT gets the mullet bike treatment, with a 29er front wheel and 27.5in rear wheel, and a solid raise up to 170mm of front travel and 165mm at the rear.

The LT’s rear suspension also gets the full-send spec, being upgraded to a piggy-back coil shock.

Cannondale says all Moterra Neo models have weatherproof batteries that are simple to remove when required, and utilise flip-open charging ports.

The entire family benefits from cables that leave the cockpit area hidden within the stem before heading inside the frame, making for a very clean look.

The Bosch Smart System uses the buttonless LED display unit, centrally mounted on the bars and operated via the remote positioned ready for your left thumb.

Customisation of the system is available through the Bosch eBike Flow app.

Big days out

Cannondale is pitching the Moterra Neo as an electric mountain bike for big days out.

All of the latest versions of the Moterra Neo see an increase in battery size, with the PowerTube 750 being the biggest single battery Bosch currently provides.

Cannondale hasn’t provided any range estimates but, as ever, that would vary significantly, depending on where and how you’re riding.

Adding to the bike’s ability to take on all-day adventures, the top-spec Carbon and Carbon LT models gain a 1,000-lumen Lezyne headlight.

Geometry updates

In the fresh geometry package, the bikes gain a 65-degree head angle and a 77-degree seat angle, to improve stability and pedalling efficiency respectively, according to Cannondale.

Small through to XL sizes will be offered on each model. All of the small-sized bikes get 27.5in rear wheels as standard, to aid rider fit.

Cannondale’s Proportional Response philosophy means each size has the suspension tweaked to best position the geometry, chainstay length and rider’s centre of gravity.

Cannondale also says each frame size benefits from differing links and mounting points to fine-tune leverage ratios and kinematics for the intended rider. The length of the dropper post also changes with the frame size.
