Cervélo has announced the release of the Rouvida, its first electric bike.

Equipped with flip chips in the front and rear dropouts, Cervélo says the Rouvida can switch between road and gravel geometry.

According to Cervélo, swapping from road to gravel geometry also ups the effective maximum tyre clearance of the Rouvida frameset, enabling riders to take advantage of the best gravel tyres.

The Cervélo Rouvida is equipped with a Fazua Ride 60 electric bike motor, which is claimed to deliver 60Nm of torque and peak power of 450 watts, and is paired to a 432Wh battery. Cervélo says the motor can provide assistance up to 25kph / 15.5mph in line with the law concerning electric bikes.

Available in road- and gravel-focused incarnations, the Cervélo Rouvida is priced from £6,000 / $6,200 / €6,799 for a build featuring Shimano GRX RX610, Fulcrum alloy wheels and WTB Vulpine TCS gravel tyres.

According to Cervélo, the Rouvida can switch between being an electric road bike and electric gravel bike without compromise.

This is because, Cervélo says, the flip chips change the tyre clearance and fit, as well as the bike’s geometry.

Switching from the road to gravel configuration, for example, slackens the effective head tube angle by 0.7 degrees (from 72 to 71.3 degrees) and increases trail from 57.9mm to 62mm.

Tyre clearance is also upped from 34 to 43.5mm, while stack and reach are 7mm taller and 5mm shorter, respectively.

Cervélo says this offers riders “the fit and handling you expect” from a Cervélo road or gravel bike, rather than a compromise between the two.

The Canadian brand also says it went to great effort to make the Rouvida look and function like any other Cervélo bike, such as the Cervélo Áspero or Caledonia – two bikes with which the Rouvida shares distinct visual similarities.

The specific placement of the battery is claimed to save “25g of drag in the wind tunnel”, which, according to Flo Cycling, equates to around 3.25 watts at 48kph / 30mph.

The control buttons for the electric assistance are also located on the drops of the handlebars, so they can be operated in a similar fashion to Shimano’s Di2 sprint shifters or SRAM’s eTap AXS Blips.

Cervélo Rouvida availability, pricing and specification

The Cervélo Rouvida will be available from December 2023 in four builds – two road-focused and two gravel-focused.

All builds share the same carbon fibre frameset and are equipped with a Fazua Ride 60 electric bike motor, which weighs a claimed 1.96kg.

As noted, this can provide assistance up to 25kph / 15.5mph and is claimed to deliver up to 60Nm of torque and peak power of 450 watts.

The Ride 60’s 432Wh battery is claimed to weigh 2.3kg.

When evaluating the Haibike Lyke CF 11 (a lightweight electric mountain bike), our tester Alex Evans noted the Fazua Ride 60 system offers a good balance between power and battery life, and is impressively quiet too.

The system’s battery life indicator panel, which is integrated into the Rouvida’s top tube, also includes a charging port for bike lights or accessories.

Prices start from £6,000 / $6,200 / €6,799 for a gravel-focused build featuring Shimano GRX RX610 and Fulcrum alloy wheels.

The range-topping model is the road-focused Cervélo Rouvida Red XPLR AXS 1, which costs £11,000 / $13,000 / €12,499 and is claimed to weigh 12.38kg.
