Lightweight has announced a limited-edition run of its Meilenstein Evo wheels, which have 23-carat gold leaf graphics.

Only 99 sets of the Lightweight Meilenstein Evo Signature Gold Edition will be available to buy: 33 in Europe, 33 in the Americas and 33 in the Asia-Pacific region.

Lightweight makes some of the most expensive and lightest road bike wheels in the world.

But the gold leaf graphics and ceramic bearings hike the price of the Meilenstein Evo Signature Gold Edition even further to £7,699 a set.

Lightweight says the Meilenstein Evo Signature Gold Edition celebrates Heinz Obermayer, who co-founded the German brand in 1984.

The gold logos also nod to the upcoming Paris Olympics. Richard Carapaz will defend the road race title he won on Lightweight Meilenstein wheels at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

The Meilenstein Evos are tubeless, disc brake carbon wheels claimed to weigh 1,380g.

Lightweight says its most versatile wheel is suitable for gravel riding as well as road use, thanks to its robust construction, despite a maximum recommended tyre width of 32mm.

It claims the Meilenstein Evo’s high stiffness-to-weight ratio provides controlled handling, precise braking and fast acceleration, while tubeless technology boosts comfort.

The front wheel’s Pentagon hub improves braking performance on long descents, while the rear DT Swiss 240 Pentagon hub ensures compatibility with most types of axle, according to the brand.

The hubs are compatible with Shimano, Campagnolo and SRAM freehubs

Both wheels have 20 full-carbon spokes to enhance rigidity and power transfer, according to Lightweight.
