New model sits beneath Rev Pro in road-helmet range, providing five-star safety and MIPS at just 280g
Giant has released a new Rev Elite MIPS helmet, which combines a five-star safety rating with low weight.
The new Rev Elite slots in between the range-topping Rev Pro MIPS and entry-level Rev MIPS in the Taiwanese brand’s line of road bike helmets.
Giant says the well-ventilated and comfortable Rev Elite suits “performance-minded” road, gravel and XC riders.
The Rev Elite MIPS costs £129.99 / €170 and comes in black, white and silver, navy and grey.
Maximum protection, minimum weight
The Giant Rev Pro MIPS, which is used by Team Jayco-AlUla, inspires the sleek design of the cheaper Rev Elite MIPS.
With 18 ventilation channels in a fairly compact helmet, the Rev Elite MIPS is a far cry from the super-sized lids and aero helmets we’ve seen ridden in the WorldTour this season.
Giant says the sub-polycarbonate shell and dual-density EPS foam provide maximum protection for minimum weight.
The Rev Elite MIPS has a five-star rating (the highest available) from the Virginia Tech Helmet Lab. Giant claims it weighs 280g in size medium.
Giant says the helmet’s integrated MIPS Evolve Core layer protects the head from rotational forces during angled impacts.
Meanwhile, reflective panels on the back of the helmet help ensure you’re seen on the road, according to the brand.
Two padding depths
The Rev Elite MIPS incorporates a four-position rear height-adjustment system and 2mm- or 6mm-deep padding to help you find the perfect fit, according to Giant.
Available sizes in the Western (oval head form) are S (51-55cm), M (55-59cm) and L (59-63cm). In the Asian (round head form), the sizes are S (51-57cm), M (55-59cm) and L (59-61cm).
Giant says it has made the Western shape slightly rounder to fit a wider range of head shapes.
Temperature regulation
In addition to 18 sizeable vents, Giant claims the silver-fibre Ionic padding conducts and reflects body heat to keep you cool.
The Ionic padding and antimicrobial strap are also said to prevent the growth of pong-producing bacteria.
