Full-suspension mountain bike now has a SRAM UDH-compatible dropout and mullet setup
Sonder has updated its full-suspension all-mountain bike, the Evol, claiming it will help you “rediscover the more playful side of riding”.
The new Sonder Evol has a revised aluminium frame, new geometry and a SRAM UDH-compatible dropout.
The bike also has a mullet-wheel setup.
A new frameset
With this update, Sonder is treating the Evol to a brand-new frameset.
Like the previous Evol, the frameset uses 6061 aluminium, which Sonder says will withstand “demanding conditions and terrains”.
The brand, paired with Alpkit and sharing its B-Corp certification, says the frame uses a durable construction, making it a reliable choice for all-mountain and enduro riding.
Another update to the frame is the addition of a UDH dropout, bringing the Evol right up to date and allowing for compatibility with SRAM T-Type derailleurs.
Elsewhere, the bike has 160mm of suspension travel delivered by a Horst-link design.
The Horst-link suspension is said to give you more control over the bike’s anti-squat throughout its travel, as well as improved reactivity when squeezing the brakes.
The Evol’s rear shock is tuned by SRAM, based on Sonder’s in-house testing for its new mountain bike.
You can adjust the suspension to suit different needs and Sonder claims this nods to its “control over design and laser focus on riding experience”.
Further frame details include internal cable routing, routed via the head tube.
Mullet wheels
Previously, the Evol had 29in mountain bike wheels front and back. But the new Sonder Evol comes with a mullet mixed-wheel configuration, swapping out the big rear wheel in favour of a 27.5in wheel.
The mullet setup is said to deliver a comfortable and responsive ride, as well as helping you take on tricky terrain with roots and rocks.
Geometry and sizing
The Sonder Evol is available in four sizes, from small to extra-large.
Compared to its predecessor, the new Evol’s geometry has been tweaked rather than completely overhauled.
The head angle drops half a degree to 64.5 degrees. Sonder says this creates a more capable bike on descents, while opening up more challenging lines.
The seat angle has steepened slightly to 76.3 degrees, while the reach remains unchanged, measuring 480mm in a size large.
Large and XL sizes get 445mm chainstays, while sizes small and medium now have shorter 435mm rear ends.
The Evol’s seat tube has also been shortened, now ranging from 400mm to 460mm across the sizes.
Sonder Evol range
Overall, there are eight builds available in the Sonder Evol range. However, these are customisable to your preferences using Sonder’s spec configurator.
Pricing starts at £2,499 for the entry-level Evol SX Eagle and tops out at £4,899 for the flagship Evol XO Eagle Transmission build.
The range includes three bikes with Shimano drivetrains.
The Evol frame is also available separately, starting at £1,849.
