New F-Series brings Dogma thinking at a lower price
Pinarello has launched the new F-Series race bikes, replacing the Prince in its range.
While the Dogma F remains the Italian brand’s flagship race bike, the new F-Series aims to bring the Dogma’s design philosophy to a more accessible price point.
The F-Series bikes will be available in three models – F9, F7 and F5 – with available groupsets ranging from Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 R9200 and SRAM Red eTap AXS for the F9, to Shimano 105 Di2 R7100 and mechanical Ultegra R8020 for the F5.
There are no Campagnolo-specced models for the new F-Series bikes.
The F-Series starts at €5,150 for the mechanical Ultegra-equipped F5, topping out at €11,900 for the F9 with Shimano Dura-Ace Di2.
Prices in the US and UK are not yet fully confirmed, with some models unavailable in certain territories.
Meanwhile, alongside the F-Series, Pinarello has also launched new X-Series endurance road bikes, which replace the Paris.
Here, we’ll concentrate on the F-Series. We also had a chance to swing a leg over the new bike at its launch in Spain – you can read our Pinarello F7 first ride review.
F-Series: a baby Dogma
The new F-Series replaces the Prince in Pinarello’s range, and is pitched as the brand’s more accessible race bike.
It features the same ‘competition’ geometry as the Dogma F and mimics its all-in-one race bike design approach, but tones down the carbon layup and consolidates some of its features.
As a result, Pinarello claims the F-Series offers the same race bike behaviour, but without the price tag of the Dogma F.
The F9 and F7 frames are constructed using Toray T900 carbon fibre, which Pinarello says offers the “ideal balance between reactivity, low weight and vibration absorption [and is] perfect for competition”.
To back up this point, it says this top-spec F-Series frame will be made available to race for all of Pinarello’s sponsored riders (aside from Team Ineos-Grenadiers, which will continue with the Dogma F).
The F5 frame uses cheaper, Toray T700 carbon fibre, which the brand claims “maintains excellent responsiveness and performance, but with a greater capacity to absorb road vibration”, at a small weight penalty.
An unpainted size 53 frame is claimed to weigh 950g for the F9 and F7, while the F5 frame is said to top the scales at 990g.
In comparison, an unpainted size 53 Dogma F frame, with Toray T1100 1K carbon fibre, is claimed to weigh 865g.
Each of the F-Series framesets features clearance for 30mm-wide tyres. Maurizio Bellin, Pinarello’s chief of research and development, says this limit helps keep the rear chainstays within a 406 to 410mm length.
Doing this, it’s claimed, maintains the race-bike like responsiveness Pinarello was shooting for when designing the F-Series.
Up-front, the 72.5-degree head tube angle and squat 542.6mm stack (in a size 53) are intended to provide sharp and direct steering – mimicking the Dogma F.
Pinarello has also maintained its asymmetrical frameset design ethos. This sees the drivetrain side of the rear triangle beefed up to handle pedalling forces, with the zones around the brake calipers also seeing fortification across the left chainstay and fork leg.

All-round race performance
As has become typical of Pinarello road bikes, the F-Series is designed to be an all-rounder race bike, as opposed to a pure climber or flat-roads-only aero bike.
The frame features ‘flatback’ aerofoil tube profiles throughout, with a deep and aggressively profiled head tube and down tube to maximise aerodynamic efficiency.
The Italian brand says the frame’s tube profiles were chosen via extensive use of wind tunnel and computation fluid dynamics testing to “maximise every aerodynamic advantage”.
This has been done while remaining in keeping with the distinctive Pinarello style the Dogma has made famous – but it stops short of providing any numbers to support its aerodynamic claims.
The down tube sees a distinctive cutaway to partially shield a bottle (just like the Dogma F), while the seat tube and seatpost are claimed to help optimise airflow through the rear triangle with a notably narrow profile.
Viewed side-on, the seatstays kink downwards slightly, while from behind there’s a distinct flare outwards, said to promote lateral stiffness and a level of vertical compliance, while remaining slippery through the air.
The F-Series also features the same integrated, 3D-printed titanium seatpost clamp from the Dogma F (weighing just 36g, according to Pinarello). It’s accessible via a rubber-bung cover on the top tube.
Its small dimensions have enabled Pinarello’s designers to slim down the junction of top tube and seatstay, which it claims further improves aerodynamic efficiency.
The F-Series has also seen the shift of Shimano’s Di2 battery from the now-slimmer seatpost to the bottom bracket area, which is now accessible through a port on the underside of the frame.
Aero optimisation aside, this could also see the bike’s centre of mass improve (very) slightly, theoretically benefiting handling.
The frames adopt Pinarello’s TiCR fully internal cable routing, which sees compatibility for both electronic and mechanical drivetrains.
The fork uses Pinarello’s trademark wavy Onda styling, which is topped with Pinarello’s proprietary 1.5in steerer design.
Those looking for a specific cockpit setup may be disappointed by the proprietary nature of the setup, but Pinarello offers its Most Talon Ultra cockpits (as opposed to the latest Talon Ultrafast bars used on the Dogma F) in 16 sizes, which should enable the rider to find an optimum fit.
For those who prefer a non-integrated front-end setup, Pinarello also makes both carbon and aluminium TiCR-compatible stems, with standard 31.8mm handlebar clamps.
Each of the F-Series bikes will be available in nine sizes (nominally ranging from 430 to 595mm, using Pinarello’s specific sizing protocol), which the Italian brand says outstrips most of its ‘high-end’ competitors, and offers a better chance of getting a spot-on fit.
Pinarello F-Series availability, prices and specifications
The F-Series bikes come with a tiered range of groupsets, although none come fitted with a power meter out of the box.
The F9 comes with Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 R9270 and SRAM Red eTap AXS groupsets, while the F7 comes fitted with either Shimano Ultegra Di2 R8170 or SRAM Force eTap AXS.
The F5, alongside its T700 carbon frame, is available with Shimano 105 Di2 R7170, or 11-speed mechanical Shimano Ultegra R8020 drivetrains.
Each bike comes with Most Ultrafast 40 carbon wheels, except for the mechanical Ultegra F5 model, which features an alloy Fulcrum Racing 800 DB wheelset.
Meanwhile, the fully integrated Most Talon Ultra carbon fibre bar-stem setup is dropped for the F5 in favour of a more conventional two-piece setup.
All bikes are available from Pinarello dealers from today, subject to territory selections.
