Vitus extends Mythique offering to younger riders, with 24in and 26in wheel-size options
Vitus has revealed its new Mythique Kids’ mountain bike range, offering 24in and 26in wheel sizes for younger riders.
The Mythique 24 uses a 120mm fork, while the Mythique 26 sees an increase to 130mm, with both versions having 120mm of rear-suspension travel.
This is Vitus’ first attempt at a full-suspension kids’ bike, with the brand previously only catering to young mountain bikers with the Nucleus hardtail.
The bikes are available now through Chain Reaction and Wiggle, with the Mythique 24 and Mythique 26 both priced at £1,599.99/$1,999.99/€2,099.99/AU$2,999.99.
Down-sized double bouncer
Vitus says it has designed the Mythique Kids’ bikes to be as capable and confidence-inspiring as the adult-size Mythique, with the children’s bike getting many of the same features.
The aluminium frame of the adult bike has essentially been ‘shrunk down’ to be suitable for smaller bodies, with Vitus claiming young riders can expect the same riding experience as adults on the regular Mythique.
The frame uses Boost rear-hub spacing and a Univeral Derailleur Hanger, which should make upgrading and finding replacement parts easier.
It also has a threaded bottom bracket – home mechanics rejoice.
The lower portion of the down tube features a rubberised frame protector to fend off rock strikes, while a full-length chainstay protector is used to minimise noise.
Vitus says the Mythique 26 has a maximum tyre width of 2.5in, while the Mythique 24 has a maximum width of 2.4in.
Vitus has also given the bike routing for a dropper post should you wish to upgrade in the future, though a quick-release clamp is fitted as standard.
Both bikes have a head angle of 66 degrees, which is the same as the adult version, but with a steeper effective seat tube angle of 75.5 degrees compared to 76.5 degrees on the full-size bike.
The direct-to-customer brand says it has tried to strike a sweet spot with the bike’s components, balancing performance, durability and cost.
Vitus specs the Mythique 24 with a 120mm Manitou Junit Expert fork, while an X-Fusion O2 Pro R shock controls the 120mm rear suspension.
The larger Mythique 26 receives a 130mm SR Suntour Raidon34 fork and uses the same rear shock.
The bikes get Clarks’ Clout1 two-piston hydraulic disc brakes, with both having a 180mm rotor at the front and 160mm at the rear.
